LG Chem has developed a new material for foldable displays that is more cost-effective than PI film.

According to media reports, LG Chem has announced the successful development of a new material suitable for foldable screens, which the company has named “Real Folding Window.”

This product features the latest coating material, with a surface as hard as glass and a folding section that is as flexible as plastic, offering both durability and light transmission. According to the official description, LG’s “Real Folding Window” is thinner than conventional tempered glass, yet maintains the same level of hardness.

Compared with polyimide film, LG’s “Real Folding Window” It offers more competitive pricing, and you can rest assured about its durability—withstanding over 200,000 folds with no issue.

More importantly, LG’s product supports both inward and outward folding designs, while significantly reducing the crease.

LG plans to begin mass production of this product in 2022, with expected applications spanning smartphones, laptops, tablets, and other devices. The company has already received customer proposals.
